Day 177 of 365 – Dayna
Dayna agreed to model for me for a strobist type shot. I still have much to learn but this is taken in my garage against the garage door (I really need to invest in a roll of white seamless and some way to hang it for this kind of shot), using a vivitar 285 to blow out the background (with a bit of help from photoshop) and a 580exii camera left in an umbrella. Then touched up in photoshop. Not the best strobist style portrait ever but I think it turned out pretty well.

Lovely portrait Jeff!

well you did a fabulous job Jeff… love her smile
I haven’t had a try at any kind of lighting… you just may get me started!
A lovely smile that would light up a room!
I think you did very well Jeff, but of course, that has a lot to do with the subject
Have a great weekend
i like it – the light in her eyes really makes ‘em sparkle!!
looks good, nice catchlights, natural look.
Wonderful smile and a lovely portrait shot !!
What a great shot….Love the smile ^.^
Nicely done… and, half an hour later, I can finally move on to my second image of the day after clicking through to the Strobist blog, then back to the Strobist group and then back to here.
Thanks, most appreciated image and linkage.

Thank you everyone

It turned out really well!! Totally looks like a pro shot to me. I really need to invest in some lighting.

Looks great…
Even with the seamless you will still get gray areas from uneven light. If you are using Photoshop just use the Dodge tool set to highlights with a low Exposure, like 10% and lightly go over the dark spots. It’ll leave the subject as it is and brighten those whites. Check out this video from Zack Arias.
Thanks Sue, Fiona & Brian!
@Brian — What a great video. I have seen some other stuff, on youtube and stuff, from Zack Arias but I hadn’t found his blog. I know that I will be spending hours pouring through it now haha.. Thanks again for the tip.
