Day 179 of 365 – Trevor At His Birthday Party
Today we had Trevor’s birthday with his friends. He turned eight yesterday and we took him, his brother and three of his friends bowling and back home for ice cream cake. This isn’t my best photo of him but it shows him on his special day so it is my photo of the day. Bowling alleys are a pain to shoot in.

ya the lights tough in these places… but you did good!
Happy Birthday Trevor… you are a handsome young man!
Bowling alleys are a big pain with all the lighting issues!
That being said – you nailed it. The exposure looks spot on and I love the low depth of field.
Great job!!
I love the glint in his eyes and the look of expectation on his face. Always good to document the milestones and daily activity. Great shot!
hey — great photo — lovely dof and a big happy birthday to Trevor
This is a sweet picture; the colors and background all work nicely together. Looks like a fun time! Happy birthday kiddo!

Seen next to a fellow photo of Photo A Day 2009. (?)
Thank you everyone, really appreciate it.
@fleabo – LOL his mom and i spectated as the others bowled. You know we wanted to keep it fair for them… (er… well thats the official story — really just didn’t want to get it handed to us by a bunch of eight year olds more likely haha)
The trouble with the bowling alley wasn’t just the low light but trying to balance flash with the ambient, which I have no clue what color the ambient light was. I only had a cto gel with me and it wasn’t that haha. In any case this was one of the few ‘keepers’ and most of my keepers were sans flash.
Excellent shot! Hope that he had a great day.
You’ve done a great shot of the bowling alley, almost bokeh like, but it’s not! weird.lol.
I think it’s worked out well in a difficult situation. And I totally understand your reasons for "spectating"!
Great portrait, I loike all of the light behind him and him off center a bit!
love the contrast here..
