Day 300 of 365 – Learn It Or Lose It

Camera Model: Canon EOS 40D
Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO: 400

Day 48 of 50 (50mm for 50days)
Large on White

I had a ‘conversation’ with on of my flickr friends today about manual focus. He is a big collector of old lenses and cameras that don’t generally work together and ends up getting things like Olympus lenses to work with Canon body’s through adapters and such. Obviously no auto focus is available in a situation like that. I brought up that manual focus is a challenge for me and the lensbaby I have had for almost a year has gotten almost no use because of it. So after my 50mm challenge (and yes I realize the lensbaby is also a 50mm) is over I will be spending some serious time with the lensbaby. I have committed to myself that if I don’t learn to use it effectively very soon I am going to sell it. Hopefully that will motivate me. I love the idea of the lensbaby; I just haven’t given it enough effort to make effective use of it yet.

And a link for those of you who don’t know what it is.

  1. NO WAY!!! you have a lensbaby and you don’t use it!?!?
You have to play with it. I wish we lived closer…I’d be there ;)
can’t wait to see what you can do with these babies.
great shot and great use of light.

    Yay!!! 65 more days ;)

  2. Cool shot Jeff, I like the effect on white; will be looking forward to seeing your LensBaby output!

Seen in my contacts’ photos. (?)

  3. I’ve seen some wonderful results from the various lensbaby attachments!

    have fun!

Seen on my Flickr home page. (?)

  4. what? do you mean you could take a shot of your shoes without bending over? and you are not using this thing? Why ever not?? come on — I double dare you!!

Congrats on 300 — I know how hard it is to do..

  5. I soooo know what you mean! I have lensbaby Composer for about a year too and don’t use it all that much. Love the effect, but can’t commit to having lensbaby on all the time and, because I don’t like switching lenses while I am out shooting, end up not using it at all. I like your idea of sticking to the lensbaby for a while…may be I should try that.

  6. I’m with you – I had a lens baby a few years back and just couldn’t make it work – I ended up taking it back. It was one of the original ones – every so often, I see a great shot with one and think that I should try again….

Nice shot, and congrats on reachin 300 days! You’re in the home stretch now…

  7. terrific shot Jeff. I believe you will fall in love with you lensbaby once you start using it. i don’t have one, maybe someday.

  8. love this shot, and that lens…. I expect great things to come from your partnership with it!!

  9. you must be patient…or so I understand… I wish I had one to try oh well maybe later. i would probably not like having to change lenses often either…

  10. Looking forward to seeing your LensBaby photos in the future :)

  11. Flickr: R11S says:

Master this thing Jeff! It looks like you have the full kit here; I do love the effect this thing produces. Can’t wait to see what you’re up to!

    Cheers!

  12. I can’t wait to get one myself – planning on it at the beginning of the year.

  13. wow ! thanks Jeff, it would be nice to think I inspired you to have a concerted effort with those ‘babies’ :-)

I too look forward to the results … pretty soon ?

  14. Nice camera lens. Looking forward to seeing your photos with it.

  15. Well this is a good lens to play with and I can’t wait to see your results~

  16. Nice product shot. Hope you have fun learning how to use it!

Seen on your photo stream. (?)

  17. I’ve been thinking about getting one of these they look fun – I’ll see what you can do with it! I think the key to manual focus is like in Star Wars ‘Use the Force, Jeff’

  18. i have the 2.0 and use the macro filters that accessorize it……it can be an exhausting and frustrating lens to work with …..but when you get it right? so yummy ….=)

  19. Awesome shot of a Lensbaby and optics, great depth of field! You should come join the group Lensbaby: The Lenses and add this image to the group. I created this group today because I noticed there were lots of groups dedicated to the images we get with our Lensbabies but not one to the Lenses.
