This shot is more to illustrate the words that I am saying here than to stand alone, but thats ok

** This is very geeky… you have been warned
**
I needed to get some more space so I went out to a local store today and picked up this 1 terabyte drive. I had actually walked in hoping to grab a 2tb drive (or at least 1.5). They didn’t have the 1.5 tb drive in the brand I prefer and the 2 tb in this brand was a lot more expensive than the 1tb and more than I wanted to pay. So I settled for the 1 terabyte drive.
Walking out of the store it struck me at how funny that statement would have sounded to me just a few years ago let alone at the beginning of the decade that is coming to a close right now. Not long before the beginning of the decade I picked up a 1 Gigabyte hard drive used from an acquaintance where I worked. That drive cost me $500 and was a full-height SCSI drive. Today I paid less than a 5th of that for 1000 times more space and I considered it settling for smaller than I wanted LOL.
I guess it is all a matter of perspective
Happy new year everyone.

Jeff… I know just what you mean. It still amazes me sometimes that my laptop has more storage than the kit I first worked with as a computer operator (Dec Vax) 20 or so years ago.

Great shot!! Interesting comments.. I remember in University… way way back… that a 10 MB hard drive filled an entire room. My first personal computer had 40MB and I was told that I’d never need more storage space than that!!
My first machine had a 4gb hard drive. Pentium 120 with 32mb ram, ah, those were the days.
As you say, it’s all a matter of perspective and the example you’ve used is not one that I would have thought of, great.
Haha…I remember when I got a computer with 20GB hard drive, I thought I am in heaven! Hope this one will last you till 2011.
)
Cool shot…love the contrast!
You can never have too much storage space… that’s my motto. Fry’s was just selling Hitachi 2TB 7200 RPM drives for 129.99 (one per customer). Amazing.

I paid $50.00 for a box of 10 3.5" floppy disks, when the HD’s first came out. They were 1.44 megs, compaired to the 3.5" 720k disks!!!

Grand shot – great words.
I’ve similar memories to those expressed in your words and those of the other commenters. Wow – I can really hold *that much* on my camera?

That’s a whopper!
Happy New Year!! =)
Cool focus and that is one big hard drive !!
It still makes me laugh that our first computer had everything on floppy disks!
Ha, I remember punch cards… It is amazing how much things have changed and how quickly. Nicely done!
