Read The Fine Print

Camera Model: Canon EOS 7D
Exposure: 0.013 sec (1/80)
Aperture: f/4.0
Focal Length: 55 mm
ISO: 100

Trying to get my photographic mojo back (I haven’t shot for several days) I decided to shoot something even if it wasn’t something that I would normally shoot. Grabbed these toy glasses, from my son’s harry potter halloween costume, and grabbed the latest assessment paperwork from my from my ‘friendly’ county assessor. Came up with this. My thoughts on it were ‘Read the Fine Print’ so that is the Title I gave it. I actually sort of like the result. Though I am feeling like these canned lightroom presets are sort of cheating :P .

  1. I love vignetting so love this. Clever tittle and glasses.

  2. Yes, it works really well. It looks like dull, hard work, and your treatment of the subject conveys it well. Shame about your mojo – I lost mine for about four months but just rode it out. Hope yours comes back quicker – we miss you! :-)

  3. I like this – those specs are perfect for this shot.

I’ve joined two other PADs because I felt that was the danger of the Magnificent 7. The luxury of not having to shoot something would be too much of a temptation.

  4. this is very nice!
    ewwwwwwww taxes!
    hahaahaha

  5. Really nice! Great idea and DOF!

  6. I love Harry Potter style glasses, this is really cool. I’ve just been learning about Lightroom presets, they are a fab idea. Trouble is I don’t have Lightroom, lol.

  10. Nicly put together, I know what you mean about photomojo, I haven´t used my camera much for the last 2 months, and starting this project has really got me going again, I have spent most of today out taking photos or playing with them on the laptop

  11. I like the result! Don’t like to read the fine print (although I know I should). :-)

  12. Very nice shot – the round glasses are perfect. Cut yourself a little slack – you just finished shooting every single day for a year… :0)

  13. Cool focus and a excellent title too !!

  14. Great DoF for this!
You’re mojo will return, no worries there =)

  15. great feel to this shot…the focus and composition are excellent. i wouldn’t feel bad about using the presets…at least until you’re familiar with all of lightroom’s features ;)

Seen on my Flickr home page. ( ?² )

  16. Great shot Jeff – glad you’re shooting again. i’m sure your mojo is just a day or so away!

  17. Love the documents that contain those "extremely important" terms of service or whatnot swimming in a sea of microscopic letters unbroken by any paragraphs or anything like that to break up the text. What a joke.

Great image, excellent depth of field and focus on the glasses and nice overall treatment. Happy MM!

  28. I’m trying to get my photo mojo back too.. i don’t know where it ran off to. very cool shot here, well done b&w

  29. I love the shot. I’ve, like so many others are saying, had the SAME feeling.

In fact, I’ve not posted anything this year except one or two.

Just yesterday I was looking out the window and thought perhaps I ought to concentrate on seeing for awhile.

As to "canned presets". Think of them as a starting point for creativity. It’s not cheating. I run through various presets just to see what might be done, but I usually use those are starting points to some degree.

  30. Hi – I’ve used this to illustrate a Grant Thornton UK post called: New year reads: new business reports and tax guides

    Thanks for sharing it.
