Creepy Crawly

Camera Model: Canon EOS 7D
Exposure: 0.006 sec (1/160)
Aperture: f/11.0
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO: 200

This is way out of my norm and my comfort zone. Not a spider fan and if memory serves correcty this is my first macro of any kind of bug like creature. I used my 50mm lens and 68mm of extension tubs — I really should buy a proper macro lens.

  1. Now that’s a macro! You’re brave :)

  2. Oh my. That is seriously way closer than I would every want to be to a spider. Was it alive?
If that’s what you can get out of your 50 and Kenkos, I don’t really know if you need to rush out for a dedicated macro.

  3. Yup it’s alive. I was coaxing it around on the table to get it to the point where I could get my light on (I had a 430exii in slave mode camera left on the table triggered by my 7d in master mode) it and shoot it before it ran off. It finally sat still long enough for me to focus (which with tubes means move my camera, and by extension my face, closer) and I got this. I did try to use my 70-200 (so i could stay further back) lens with the tubes but I couldn’t get in close enough and the spider wasn’t big enough in the frame for me. So I went to the 50mm… I had to get closer than I liked but I think it was more concerned with getting away from me than jumping me :)

  4. ok, I haven’t looked at this too much, it’s nearly bedtime and I’ll have nightmares. From what I remember of the glimpse I got, excellent job getting the crisp focus.
