Theme Hobby or Hobbies
June 7, 2010
I really wanted to do something photography related as I am seemingly obsessed with the subject; but, the assignment here was meant to show us something about each other that we didn’t necessarily know. So I chose to do something based on a ‘hobby’ of sorts that I enjoy a lot.
I have a reasonably long commute, approximately 1 and 1/2 hours a day between the trip to work and the trip home. I find the chitter chatter on the radio occasionally interrupted by songs a bit annoying so I skip it.
I have never been a huge reader; but I have found this commute to be a perfect time to ‘read’. In the past 5 or 6 years I have accumulated over 100 audible audio books and have really enjoyed the break from the radio. If you haven’t tried audio books, and you have a time when you can’t read but listening would work for you give it a try.

We always host a 4th of July get together for the family at my house. We can see the display the city puts on not too far from us from our driveway. I enjoy making photos of the display and my kids are getting excited even though we still have a month to got before this years festivities. So we were looking at the photos from last year and I thought I would post one to flickr. I have posted several others from 7/4/2009 but I am pretty sure I haven’t posted this one before now.

Shot for Strobist Sunday 6/6/2010 – Theme Liquid
This is my first strobist sunday entry. I had a 430 exII camera right on the table beside the glass at 1/64 power. I had a 580 exii aimed at a tablecloth behind the glass on full power. Both without modifiers; I’m kinda lazy that way sometimes
. Triggered both using Cybersyncs.

A bit of a cliche the straw macro is…. that said I wanted to do something colorful.
If you want to see the sexy thing that made this check out my other post from today, “My New Girlfriend”.

Don’t tell my wife
Just kidding she already knows. I just got it today and haven’t really gotten to use it much yet. But the few tests I have done with it are telling me it is fantastic (and not just for macros).
I plan to walk around with it for a while to get to know it — I think it will be interesting to go back to a prime for a walk around when I have been using a zoom for a long time. I’ll post photos from it when I get a chance.

My photo management software, Aperture, tells me that I shoot strawberrys a lot. I just think they are a great subject. This is a simple strawberrry shortcake that we had after dinner tonight. It was quite yummy!

Sticking with my creepy theme over the last few days I present to you Creepy Fingers.

One of my kids toys, probably from Burger King or McDonalds. I just thought it was pretty creepy in it’s own right, I mean the thing laughs when you yank on it’s arms, so I decided to see how ominous looking I could get it to look in a photograph. Not as creepy and ominous as I was going for but still not a horrible effort imho.
I shot this mostly just to play with strobes as I haven’t done much with two strobes lately and I just got a 430exII to replace my vivitar 285hv which just stopped working. This was done with a 580exii camera left 1/128th manual and a 430exii behind subject and camera right 1/8th power (I think) triggered by Canon Wireless from my 7D.

This is way out of my norm and my comfort zone. Not a spider fan and if memory serves correcty this is my first macro of any kind of bug like creature. I used my 50mm lens and 68mm of extension tubs — I really should buy a proper macro lens.
